C02 - Get Students Talking: Using Authentic Ads and Commercials to Build Proficiency

How do we get our students, from beginning levels on, to build their understanding of the THREE P’s: Products, Practices and Perspectives? Let’s look at how we can increase our students' ability to express their understanding of another culture by using advertising to both MOTIVATE language production and broaden cultural understandings. Let’s look too at how we can incorporate TECHNOLOGY to facilitate student access to authentic resources combined with scaffolded support. By using both commercials and print ads from the early levels, students can learn Identity, Interculturality and the Language needed to compare and contrast them.
