Vocabulary learning: beat the forgetting curve! No-prep classroom ideas to help learners make the most of their vocabulary book

A workshop to explore ways for your learners to engage with and learn vocabulary and improve fluency. We will be looking at:

  • creating opportunities to revisit vocab in all four skills
  • manipulating vocabulary through meaningful chunks and sentences
  • increasing awareness of specific linguistic features
  • encouraging fluency and increasing speed of retrieval

The ideas in this workshop can be applied to all languages, using a published vocabulary book or students own vocab lists. Danièle Bourdais will be using examples from A-Z for French B published by Elemi, a vocabulary book organized by topic for IB Diploma. Attendees do not need to have access to this book or be teaching IB, although examples in Danièle’s workshops will be of most use to those learning French at upper secondary level.
